Contest Rules

• User should obtain a display name by registering at ourlocate.com which should be used as display name in the iPhone application.

• All registered users should integrate their Twitter accounts to the OurLocate application and use the application at least once a day to report on traffic conditions around them for 30 days. Incase you do not have twitter account, you can create one at www.twitter.com

• Each post will be awarded 10 points for indicating traffic situation and 15 points for adding meaningful comments describing traffic situation.
• DO NOT forget to integrate your twitter account ,without which points wont be added to your account

• The traffic post is intended to help commuter in identifying traffic problems. user should refrain from posting multiple posts from same location and creating spam.

Get additional points for referring your friend to join the contest. Ask him to mention your display name when registering and you would receive 100 additional points and your friend 25 points

How to report using OurLocate

The app is has a simple interface. Choose the traffic condition and hit report.Add comments about the traffic situation if you feel so.

We are launching  contest in mid march 2010. Users can register on our website and you can win cool t-shirts(weekly)  and iPods. You need to download our Iphone application to participate in the contest. Stay tuned with us through twitter and facebook for updates when it opens up.

OurLocate for England

OurLocate is soon to be launched for England, user can download iPhone application or register for  web alerts from our website and receive alerts. We will also send details provided to us by highway Agency apart from user submitted data. Unlike USA, receivng alerts to your cell phone through SMS free of cost (Yayy !)

OurLocate 2.0

Finally! The second version of OurLocate 2.0 is accepted by app store. This version has completely different of interface as you can see from picture below. After a lot of debate we agreed upon the fact that allowing commuters to transfer information among their friends/family and colleagues allowing them to form groups would help people to volunteer to give more information. We introduced twitter integration using which users can automatically update traffic condition at his place and update it.

Push Notification, the latest feature on Iphone SDK 3.0 is used to alert users about the traffic alerts. You can have a look at screenshots of the new version.

Application for Download

The application after three revisions with apple app store and various changes is finally accepted for sale through app store . It can be downloaded by clicking the link.

The application tries to provide a platform for users to share real time traffic data and also access at same time(only 7% of highways have sensors from which we get live traffic data). In the present application, the access is limited to route on which user is traveling. The future version would provide access to the information provided by users on all the routes user might take.

Changes are being made to release the second version with an additional feature to existing application so that information can be any road information can be accessed without actually being  present at that location
